Description

From the Anthony Lake area, the first 0.5 mile of the trail passes Lilypad Lake. This shallow lake is covered with yellow water lily blossoms all summer.

The trail crosses wet meadows before reaching the Elkhorn Crest Trail. The trails merge for several hundred feet before Black Lake trail turns, ascending to another meadow along the outlet creek.

The Elkhorn Crest Trail passes within 100 yards of the eastern shore of the lake.

There are several campsites scattered around the lake and the fishing is good.

Closed to all motorized vehicle use.

From Baker City, Oregon, take U.S. Highway 30 to Haines, turn west on County Road 1146, follow the Elkhorn Drive Scenic Byway signs to Anthony Lakes (32 miles). Turn in at the Anthony Lake Campground and continue on road 7300-170 past the campground to the trailhead (Trail #1600).
