Description

Garnet was once a mining community fed by gold strikes, but by 1950, it was deserted. Over 30 of its buildings stand preserved today and self-guided trails will take you by them. Some of the buildings are ruins, but a few buildings can be explored both inside and out.

Additional Details:
The road to Garnet is closed in the winter . . . at least to wheeled vehicles. You can still get there via cross-country skiing or snowmobiling, and many people do.

Basic Directions
To get to the Ghost Town from Missoula, take I-90 west to Exit 154 for Drummond and follow the Frontage Road from the west end of Drummond for approximately 10 miles to the Bear Gulch Road. Turn onto Bear Gulch road at the sign for Garnet. Proceed 11 miles up the gravel road.
