Description
As the Owyhee’s waters exit the severe basalt canyons of the Middle stretch they widen into an open desert valley. Large bluffs jut up from the grasslands that surround the river and splashy beginner-intermediate level rapids dot the river channel.
Hot springs are plentiful along the Owyhee and wildlife viewing is excellent throughout the open grasslands, with elk, deer, raptors, big horn sheep and cougars commonly sighted along the way. Multi-day trips start just outside Rome, Oregon.
