The Dalles…Simply Sunsational!
If you’ve never pulled off the highway and explored The Dalles, you’ve been missing a lot – a perfectly preserved downtown, incredible vistas from Sorosis Park, a fantastic outdoor playground and super friendly small town folk. Located along the shores of the Columbia and near the Deschutes River, we’re the eastern gateway to the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area and near the Mt. Hood National Forest.
The Dalles is uniquely situated in the rain shadow of Mt. Hood and while it’s raining in Portland, you can be outside hiking, biking, cycling, kayaking, hunting, fly-fishing, skiing, windsurfing or whitewater rafting under clear blue skies.
We’re also a great place to geocache. Take The Dalles-Dash challenge to discover our hidden treasures or travel the surrounding area in our World of Wine in 49 (miles) geocache loop.
There’s a ton of history here. Explore our historic murals, the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Wasco County Historical Museum and the Ft. Dalles Museum. Explore the area’s Native American history at The Museum at Warm Springs or the pictographs and petroglyphs at Columbia Hills State Park.
The Dalles Art Center has fantastic art on display for sale. Up the road, Maryhill Museum of Art has the second largest Auguste Rodin collection on the West Coast, Theatre de la Mode dolls, and the largest public display of Native American basketry in North America.
Whatever you enjoy, you’ll find it in sunny The Dalles!
