Description

This steep to very steep trail descends into the East Fork of Cottonwood Creek, passing through dense mixed conifer forest with scattered ponderosa pine and grassy openings. Although close to road access, the nature of the country provides a very remote experience. No public access is available to the north end of Trail No. 819 at the National Forest boundary. The north end of Cottonwood trail will connect with the new Back Trail No. 818, planned to be open for use in 2004, providing trail access continuing westerly toward Spanish Peak. Trail is maintained every year to primitive standards.
