Description

Eagle Creek Trail follows along side Eagle Creek itself. It is a lush, old growth, Westside Cascade environment in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness Area. This is not the Eagle Creek Trail with major waterfalls – that trail is in the Columbia Gorge.Eagle Creek Trail itself is relatively flat as it follows Eagle Creek. While the trail is 5.8 miles long, the last mile of road down to the trail has deteriorated (see direction on next page) so add that mile of road to the hike distance. Trail ends at a ford across Eagle Creek that access Eagle Creek Cutoff Trail.

Regulations & Leave No Trace Information: Group size is limited to 12 including stock. For example, 3 riders each on their own horse count as 6. Leave No Trace Principles ?? Map + Directions

Basic Directions

From the town of Sandy, take Hwy 26 approximately 2 miles eastward, looking for Firwood Road (Shorty’s corner) on the south side of the highway. Turn south onto Firwood. After 0.8 mile Firwood will bear right at a 4-way stop. Follow Firwood another 2.6 miles to its junction with Wildcat Mt Road. Turn west (right) taking Wildcat Mt Rd for 4.5 miles. Turn left on Eagle Fern Rd. that eventually becomes George Rd and follow it for 9.2 miles. There are a few 90 degree turns along the way. Harvey Rd is will be on your right. Take Harvey Rd eastward. The pavement ends here and now you will be following a rough logging road for the next 2.4 miles. Most of the turn options have been blocked on this stretch. Stay on the main route. At 2.4 miles you will come to a “Y”, park here. The old road to the right is what you want to take. This is a very poor road – don’t drive it. It is approximately a mile down this old roadway to the original trailhead.
