About 1.5 miles from the trailhead, the trail passes a reservoir used for storing water piped to the hydroelectric plant at the trailhead.
NW Forest Passes are not required at Wallowa Lake Trailheads.
The trail is well maintained. It is signed at the trailhead and at all main junctions. The trail is easy walking or riding with numerous switchbacks. There are many loop opportunities available from the Tenderfoot Pass area.
