Description

This trail is located just south of Mt. Adams Wilderness. Trail No. 40 begins near a livestock corral on Road 8020. The trail passes through selectively harvested forests, intersects with Trail No. 72, and crosses Hole-in-the-Ground Creek. It then climbs McDonald Ridge where it ends on Road 8020. The trail is lightly used.

The trail and creek are named after the Gotchen family - sheepherders from eastern Oregon who traveled here each summer to graze their flocks.

Forested path, Hole-in-the-Ground Creek, and old stock drive.
