Description

Lost Lake is a quiet, secluded subalpine lake lying in the shadow of Mount Ruth. The lake sits on the North Fork of the North Powder River in a small scenic basin. The numerous tributaries in this basin are punctuated by many lush meadow openings. Wildflowers are wide spread in the upper basin and the meadows. A forest canopy of subalpine fir, spruce and lodgepole pine cover the basin, maintaining seclusion and creating excellent summer wildlife habitat. Mount Ruth dominated the skyline in this portion of the Elkhorns and is the singular dominant feature of the basin. Camping spots are plentiful. Meadow Lake, just off the trail, is a small picturesque lake near by.

Trailhead facilities for the Elkhorn Crest Trail are located east of Anthony Lake Campground. Travel on this portion of the trail, as well as the Lost lake Trail is limited to foot or horse travel only. Other secondary points of entry are the North Powder and Cracker Creek Roads. Both roads are suitable for 4-wheel drive vehicles and trail bikes only.
