The Two Pan Trailhead provides access to some of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Eastern Oregon. On this particular route you will travel by several of these glacially formed lakes. The trail passes through wide open meadows with huge peaks rising up around them. Travel through ponderosa pine forests, and groves of quaking aspens that turn a deep gold in the fall. The streams and lakes provide many fishing possibilities. You can expect to see mountain goats, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, ground squirrels, picas, and other smaller mammals along this route.
There are many dispersed camping opportunities on these trails. Various loop opportunities exist from this route.
NW Forest Passes are required at Two Pan Trailhead.
This trail follows the West Fork of the Lostine River to Minam Lake then on to the Minam River for much of it's route. The climb out of the Minam River valley to Swamp Lake is steep and dry. Be sure to carry water for this stretch, especially later in the summer and fall. Camping and grazing are available in several locations. Please see current Eagle Cap Wilderness Regulations. The trail is signed at all main junctions, trailheads and wilderness boundary. The trailhead has a stock ramp, hitch rails, campground, and outhouse facilities. There is a large area available for parking horse trailers at the trailhead.
