Description

The traditional, established route of Payten Trail crosses private land for 1.3 miles without a right-of-way allowing public access. The current trail location and condition presents problems for the private landowner of trespass damage, trail deterioration, and extensive wet areas crossed. A plan is being developed to relocate the Payten Trail route entirely onto National Forest land, avoiding the problems of the existing route. Estimated completion date for Payten Trail relocation is not currently available.

Payten Trail was affected by 747 Fire suppression activities in the summer of 2002. Rehabilitation work to stabilize conditions has been undertaken, but the trail is not maintained for public use at this time.
