For the best of both Oregon worlds, beat a hasty retreat to Bend, a central city home to a culturally-oriented community and close to ski slopes, raftable river, ragged mountains, golf courses, top climbing spots and peaceful forest.
In the Diamond Peak Wilderness and the Oregon Cascades Recreation Area. The trail begins at Crater Butte Trail No. 44 and goes south past Snell Lake to Snell Lake and Meek Lake Trailheads on F.S. Rd. 6010. From the trailhead it goes south across Summit Creek, past Meek Lake to Summit Lake Trail No. 46. This trail meanders through stands of mature lodgepole and mountain hemlock and provides access to Effie, Snell, and Meek Lakes.
Northern part of trail is in Diamond Peak Wilderness Area. Wilderness Permits are required for both day-use and overnight travel in the Wilderness from Memorial Day Weekend until Oct. 31. Permits are available at the trailhead.
