Description
This trail parellels Granite Boulder Creek and offers some very photogenic views. Some wildlife seen along this trail have been Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, black bear, coyote, couger, bobcat, raccoon, procupine, and a variety of rodents, squirrels, and birds.
This trail's highest use period is in the fall during big game hunting seasons and access the Vinegar Hill Scenic Area, which is non-motorized. The trail is on a closed road bed that accessed the old Tempest Mine. There is no developed trailhead at the beginning of the trail. Parking is limited and turning a stock trailer would be impossible here.

Basic Directions
From John Day, travel east on US Highway 26 for approxmiately 30 miles to US Highway 7, at Austin Junction. Drive north on US Highway 7 for one mile to County Road 20. Drive northwest on County Road 20 for approximately 8 miles to Forest Service road 4550. Drive north on Forest Service road 4550 for approximately 2 1/2 miles to Forest Service road 4559. Continue to travel north on Forest Service road 4559 for approximately 3 miles to the end of the road.
