Description

The trail is steep and narrow, gaining almost 800 feet in elevation in less than one mile. The last ¼ mile is a bit of a scramble. The trail ends at the rock formations.

Castle Canyon, a short day hike into the Mt. Hood Wilderness, leads to interesting tower-like rock formations.

Regulations & Leave No Trace Information: ?? Wilderness Permits are required between May 15 and Oct 15, but are free and self-issuing at a permit box station along the trail. ?? Please do not place caches, including geocaches, in wilderness. Instead of geocaches, do virtual caches where the destination is a durable surface. The cumulative impact of several groups visiting a pristine area can be significant.

Basic Directions

Take Hwy 26 to Rhododendron. Take the first road, E. Arlie Mitchell Rd, east of the highway bridge. This is on the north side of the highway. This road points you back westward for 200 yards, then bears right. After 1/4 mile, you will come to a junction with Henry Creek Rd and Rd. 19. Turn left onto the gravel road Rd. 19. Follow it for 1/2 mile to the trailhead. Parking is limited. Be sure not to block driveways. More parking is available a short distance further down the road.
