Description

The roads to the southern trailhead are extremely rough and not recommended for passenger vehicle. There are loops at both trailheads for easy trailer parking.

This trail has very little vertical relief for the first six miles from the southern end, running relatively close to the contours. The majority of the trail is in moderate to heavy timber with only a few scenic vistas. A number of ruins left from old mining and timber activities are visible from the trail.

Part of the trail travels through heavy stands of old growth and the hiker can expect to have many opportunities to view pilated and other woodpeckers.
