Description

This trail offers both low and high elevation life zones to explore. East Fork Canyon Creek offers good native cutthroat trout fishing. Trail accesses the Canyon Creek Natural Area -- a unique parklike stand of old growth ponderosa pine. There is a wide variety of campsites along this trail.

There is plenty of room for parking at the trailhead. There are stalls and hitching rails available for horses. Stock water is located 1/2 a mile down the trail on the East Fork of Canyon Creek.

Basic Directions

From John Day, travel south on US highway 395 to the junction with County road 65. Take county road 65 south approximately 4 miles to the junction with the 6510 road. Follow the 6510 road to the 812 road. Take the 812 road to the trailhead at the end of the road.
