Description

Hoffer Lakes Trail provides a short day hike from the Anthony Lakes area.

The trail rises through a lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forest for a steep half-mile bordering Parker Creek.

Hoffer Lakes was once a single lake created when a natural dam was deposited by a glacier. Through the years, soil accumulations have divided the lake and formed a meadow. Near the east shore of the smaller lake a waterfall cascades over a steep granite rock face. The white color of the granite, next to the green alpine conifers and the deep blue sky, create a beautiful contrast on a sunny day.

Gunsight Mountain (8,342 ft.) and Angell Peak (8,646 ft.) are visible in the near distance.

The main trail continues along the northern shoreline of the small Hoffer Lake, then it rises through a series of small meadows to end at Forest Road 185. Follow the road down to Anthony Lake.Closed to all motorized vehicle use.
