Description

This section of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail is between Emigrant Pass (Summit Lake) and Willamette Pass (Northwest Forest Pass required) and passes through the Diamond Peak Wilderness Area. The trail goes around the east base of Diamond Peak (elevation 8744 ft) near timberline (about 7100 ft). Diamond Peak has been deeply cut into by glaciers, leaving sharp divides (aretes) separating great bowls (cirques). Basaltic lava and volcanic cinders and ash make up this stratovolcano.
