Description

The trail is the continuation of Forest Road No. 6460. Four-wheel drive vehicles are required on the last three miles before reaching the trailhead at the forest boundary.

From the forest boundary the old road climbs a steep, rocky slope (not recommended for motor vehicle use) in the last mile before the reservoir. The steep trail continues for 0.8 miles beyond the reservoir.

Pine Creek reservoir lies in a deep basin rimmed by nearly vertical slopes, between Rock Creek Butte (9,105') and Elkhorn Peak (8,931'). Open and wooded camp-sites can be found along the western shore or in the remainder of the basin. In the fall, the aspen, dogwood, and larch display a symphony of golden patches on the ridges and ravines of lower Pine Creek.

Restrictions: From the forest boundary to the reservoir-None. From the reservoir to the end-Closed to all motor vehicles.
