Description

This trail start right in Government Camp so for visitors staying there, they can start right out their door. It connects with Crosstown Trail and Glade Trail so route options are expanded. Views of Mt Hood and Ski Bowl are found. Skiway Trail is named for the old Skiway ski lift that went from Thunderhead Lodge to Timberline Lodge is the early 1950’s. The trail is parallel to the lower section of this old ski lift. Skiway’s wide clearing is advantageous for skiing and snowshoeing. It has a few steep pitches that push it into that "most difficult” rating for cross-country skiers and mt bikers. These steeper pitches can have loose rock also. On the other hand, Wally’s is also wide so that the winter snows collect more easily but it is at an easier grade. A short loop can be made when combining Skiway with Crosstown Trail and Wally’s.

Regulations & Leave No Trace Information: There are no unique trail regulations on these trails other than the uses that are allowed.

Leave No Trace Principles ?? Plan Ahead and Prepare Be Considerate of Other Visitors ?? Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces Leave What You Find ?? Dispose of Waste Properly Minimize Campfire Impacts ?? Respect Wildlife Skiers and snowshoers – General etiquette in winter has skiers pioneer in their own "ski track” and snowshoers pioneer in their own "snowshoe track”. The trails in this area are wide and can accommodate this easily. Don’t travel in each other’s track.
