The beautiful Blue Mountains, located west of Interstate 84 from around Baker City to just north of La Grande, offer outdoor recreation such as soaking at Lehman Hot Springs and skiing at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort.

Hells Canyon National Recreation Area contains the deepest river gorge in North America, along with over 650,000 acres of adjacent land. Scenic vistas that rival any on the continent can be found here, as well as world-class whitewater rafting, vast reaches of remote wilderness for hikers or horseback riders, and diverse and abundant wildlife.

The Wallowas remain fairly undiscovered, but they are beloved by the backcountry hikers, campers, and cross-country skiers who have played on their slopes and who praise their Alps-like peaks and glacial lakes.
